A dog rescued seemed to be so depressed and unresponsive that the animal shelter was going to have him euthanized. A veterinarian was getting ready to put him to sleep forever, when he noticed what was wrong with the little pup. Thankfully, that astute observation saved the dog’s life.
Simba was rescued from a severely abusive and neglectful situation and placed in a high kill shelter. The pup had no energy and refused to play with any other dogs. Shelter workers were beginning to think that Simba would never be ready for a forever home and they sent him to a vet to euthanize him.
When the vet gave Simba an exam, he found something in the nick of time: a tick. Simba was suffering from tick fever, a condition that can cause a dog to feel exhausted and miserable. It’s amazing that Simba could even walk, he was so weak.
Removing the tick and a little treatment helped Simba to recover. To help him along even more, he was transferred to a foster home. His ‘foster brother’ dog gave him lots of affection and socialization, and helped Simba learn how to play and interact with people and other dogs.
Simba may have been on death’s door, but now he’s healthy and happy. His foster family deemed he’s now ready for that forever home, which he deserves.
